Birds of Prey (Movie)
Birds of Prey (and the Fantastic Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), often known as Birds of Prey and Harley Quinn or just Birds of Prey, is a 2020 American superhero film. Warner Bros. is in charge of distribution. It’s the eighth film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), and it’s both a spin-off and a sequel to Suicide Squad (2016). Cathy Yan directed it, while Christina Hodson wrote the script.
The film features Harley Quinn, who is threatened by Gotham City criminal lord Roman Sionis after breaking up with the Joker and joins forces with Helena Bertinelli, Dinah Lance, and Renee Montoya (who later form the Birds of Prey) to free Cassandra Cain.
In 2015, Robbie, who also served as producer, proposed Warner Bros. with the idea for Birds of Prey. The film was announced in May 2016, and Hodson was engaged to write the script in November of that year, followed by Yan’s appointment as director in April of the following year. By December 2018, the majority of the cast and crew have been confirmed. Principal photography took place in Downtown Los Angeles, portions of the Arts District, and soundstages at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California, from January to April 2019. In September of this year, more filming took place.
On January 25, 2020, the film had its world debut in Mexico City, and on February 7, 2020, it was distributed in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, ScreenX, and 4DX theaters across the United States. It only made $201 million worldwide, falling shy of the $250–300 million break-even mark that was widely publicized. Critics praised Yan’s direction, visual aesthetic, fast-paced action, and Robbie’s performance as Quinn, but many criticized Hodson’s writing.

Birds of Prey Storyline
The Joker breaks up with Harley Quinn four years after the Enchantress is defeated, and throws her out on the streets of Gotham City. Doc, the owner of a Taiwanese restaurant, takes her in and helps her get over her ex-boyfriend by cutting her hair, adopting a spotted hyena (whom she names after Bruce Wayne), and getting into roller derby.
Sionis dispatches Dinah and Victor Zsasz, his sadistic right-hand man, to acquire a diamond-encrusted with the account numbers for the Bertinelli crime family’s money, which was massacred years before. Cassandra “Cass” Cain, a young pickpocket, steals the diamond from Zsasz and eats it after being apprehended. Harley is apprehended by Sionis’ soldiers while fleeing Montoya and several other individuals she has hurt. Dinah warns Montoya, and Zsasz informs Sionis that Cassandra has the jewel. Sionis kidnaps Harley and forces him to retrieve the diamond under duress, as well as placing a price on Cassandra. Getting into the GCPD with a variety of non-lethal grenade launcher rouns inspired by fireworks
Harley and Cassandra build a bond while hiding out at the former’s flat after escaping. The “crossbow killer,” who is revealed to be Helena Bertinelli, approaches Doc for information. Helena has been hunting each of the criminals responsible for her family’s killings, preferring the moniker “Huntertress,” after surviving her family’s massacre and becoming trained as an assassin. Later, when Harley’s flat is bombed by criminals searching for Cassandra, Doc regretfully admits that he sold Harley out. Harley contacts Sionis and offers to hand over Cassandra in exchange for his protection, with the two agreeing to meet at an abandoned amusement park. Dinah informs Montoya about the meeting, but her treason is revealed.
Montoya resigns from the GCPD after defeating Sionis’ criminal enterprise. Helena joins forces with Dinah and Montoya to form the Birds of Prey, a vigilante group that uses the money from the accounts buried inside the diamond (which was recovered from Cassandra). Harley and Cassandra flee, selling the diamond to a pawn shop and launching their own company.
Harley is ready to divulge a bombshell about Batman in a post-credits audio clip when she is cut off in the middle of her sentence.
