Catch the Bullet Storyline

When US Marshal BRITT MacMASTERS returns home from the trail, he discovers that his 12-year-old son, CHAD, has been kidnapped by outlaws — JED BLAKE and his gang. Britt heads off into perilous Sioux territory with the help of CHASKA, an Indian guide, and CLAY TUCKER, a prejudiced deputy who doesn’t trust the guide. Jed discovers the prisoner boy to be a formidable and crafty opponent as he pulls the Marshal into his fatal trap, with many escape attempts that result in terrible beatings for Chad and an unexpected tree branch jammed into Jed’s eye.

Jed’s terrible injuries have left him a man falling on the verge of insanity, with the prospect of the ruthless Sioux warriors lurking around the corner. Tucker’s racist beliefs regarding Britt’s Indian companion are severely challenged as the search group advances farther into the Red Desert when Chaska saves him from a close encounter with a Sioux warrior’s knife. Britt is racing against time to meet the crazy outlaw and save his ailing son, with both sides falling to vicious attacks and scalped heads.

Meanwhile, Jed, sliding more into lunacy and fearful that the Marshal has fallen prey to the warriors, plays a game of “Catch the Bullet” with his child hostage. “I’ll play with ya,” says an invisible Britt before Chad can respond. Jed is face to face with his foe, trembling with mad delight.
