Elves is a Netflix Original Film that premiered just in time for the holidays! There’s just one problem: they’re not the red-and-white-clad, toy-obsessed creatures from Santa’s workshop. The following series is far darker than you may expect from a holiday drama. Here’s everything you need to know about “Elves” if you want to add a little intrigue and evil to your holiday season.
Elves Release Date
Elves is the latest addition to Netflix’s Christmas lineup, starting on November 28. The six-episode Danish series takes set over the Christmas holiday, but the premise suggests that it won’t be the happiest of occasions.

What Is Elves About ?
A family of four travels to a distant island in the Danish archipelago in the hopes of reuniting over Christmas, only to discover that it is controlled by members of a fiercely religious group who live in harmony with fearsome animals in the woods revealed to be… elves. Real-life monstrosities who inspired legends and tales that we all know. When the family’s daughter accidentally finds and brings home a baby elf, she throws everyone on the island into a life-or-death war for faith, family, and pure survival.
When a teenager and her family uncover an ancient threat stalking their island retreat, their Christmas vacation turns into a nightmare. The genuine, horrific beings who inspired the tales and stories we all know will be resurrected by elves.
Stefan Jaworski (Those Who Kill, The Candidate) conceived and wrote the original series, which is directed by Roni Ezra (The New Nurses) and produced by Elise H. Lund for Miso Film and consists of six episodes set in Denmark. Elves is based on a concept created by Jannik Tai Mosholt and Christian Potalivo (The Rain), who also act as executive producers alongside Miso Film’s Peter Bose and Jonas Allen.
“With our new Netflix show Elves, we continue the solid partnership we have been building with Netflix through three seasons of The Rain,” says Peter Bose, CEO and Producer of Miso Film. ‘What if Elves were real and dangerous?’ is the idea of Elves, a Christmas horror show. Netflix has proven time and time again that they are willing to take risks when others are not. We applaud Netflix for allowing us to explore new genres that we previously couldn’t afford to develop and produce in our local market. Elves will be shot entirely in and around Copenhagen, and we’re excited to offer Netflix subscribers a fresh take on the Christmas theme.”
“There are a lot of reasons why we are pleased about this new Danish production,” says Tesha Crawford, Director of Netflix International Originals Northern Europe. First and foremost, we’re reuniting with our long-time collaborators at Miso Film, who have proven to be exceptional storytellers. Second, I wanted to use local tales that have always had a strong resonance in the Nordic region and turn them into a modern-day Christmas story with a touch of terror.”
