Eternals Movie Plot

The Celestial Arishem sends 10 superpowered Eternals to Earth in 5000 BC to eradicate the invasive Deviants: Ajak, Sersi, Ikaris, Kingo, Sprite, Phastos, Makkari, Druig, Gilgamesh, and Thena. They have protected humanity from the Deviants for millennia, but they are not permitted to interfere in human affairs. In the 1500s, they murder the last of the Deviants, and the group’s members disagree about their continued obligations and connection with humanity. They primarily lived apart for the following five hundred years, waiting for Arishem’s return.

Sersi and Sprite are currently living together in London. Sersi has a connection with human Dane Whitman, who works at the Natural History Museum, after she was abandoned by her mate Ikaris over 500 years ago. The Deviant Kro attacks the trio, prompting Ikaris to arrive and chase the beast away. They prepare to reunite with the surviving Eternals after they realize the Deviants have returned. They journey to South Dakota only to discover that Ajak, their leader, was murdered by Kro before he left for London, giving her the ability to heal.

The Eternals regroup and decide to avert the Emergence after learning to love humans. They reunite in Australia with Kingo, Thena, and Gilgamesh before traveling to Druig’s home in the Amazon rainforest, where Kro and the Deviants assault them. Before departing, Kro murders and feeds on Gilgamesh, attaining a completely humanoid shape and the capacity to talk. They visit Phastos after cremating Gilgamesh, who suggests that Druig use his mind control powers, which are intensified by the Uni-Mind, a connection between all the Eternals, to put Tiamut to sleep.

The Eternals combat Ikaris and Sprite before being assaulted by Kro, who is killed by Thena, after Makkari locates the location of Emergence at the foot of an active volcano in the Indian Ocean. After Sprite attempts to kill Sersi, Druig knocks her out, and the other Eternals work together to subjugate Ikaris. Sersi utilizes her matter transmutation skills to turn Tiamut into stone after Phastos activates the Uni-Mind. Sersi uses the remaining energy from the Uni-Mind to change Sprite into a human, taking her of her immortality. A guilt-ridden Ikaris flies into the Sun, and Sersi uses the remaining energy from the Uni-Mind to turn Sprite into a human, stripping her of her immortality.

Sersi, Phastos, Kingo, and Sprite remain on Earth, while Thena, Druig, and Makkari depart in their starship, the Domo, in search of additional Eternals. Dane professes his love for Sersi and is about to reveal a family secret when she, along with Phastos and Kingo, are remotely dragged into space by Arishem in full view of all the people of Earth. Arishem is enraged by their treason but chooses to spare humanity if the Eternals’ memories show that humans are worthy of life. Before dissolving into a singularity and taking them with him, he swears to return for judgment.

Thena, Makkari, and Druig are visited by the Eternal Eros, Thanos’ brother, and his assistant Pip the Troll, who offer their assistance in a mid-credits sequence. Whitman opens an antique chest acquired from his ancestors that houses the famous Ebony Blade in a post-credits sequence when an unseen person asks whether he is ready for it.
