Plot

Heather Watkins, a bookstore employee, is stabbed by her friend Ryan Torres in 1994, despite the fact that he had given no indication that he intended to kill her. He is shot in the head by police officer Nick Goode after murdering her and numerous mall staffers. The slaughter is described in the media as “normal” in Shadyside, which has been dubbed “America’s Murder Capital.” Sunnyvale, on the other hand, is the polar opposite, as it is regarded as one of the wealthiest and safest cities in the country. Many Shadyside youths think that this is the result of a curse placed on the town by Sarah Fier, who was hanged for witchcraft in 1666.

Deena Johnson is a skeptic of the Fier witch and has lately split up with her long-distance boyfriend Sam, who has relocated to Sunnyvale. Her brother Josh spends his time researching the town’s history, while her friends Simon and Kate sell drugs in the hopes of leaving the community. Deena and Sam reunite during a vigil for the victims of the mall shootings in Sunnyvale, where a brawl breaks out between Shadyside and Sunnyvale teenagers.

When Sam’s boyfriend, Peter, returns home, he begins tailgating the Shadyside students’ bus, prompting Deena to almost hurl a large cooler at the car in vengeance. Peter’s automobile crashes after she loses her grip on the cooler due to a severe nosebleed. Sam lives, but before being transferred to the hospital, she witnesses a murder.

The next night, Deena and her companions are stalked by someone they mistakenly think to be Peter and his friends. When Deena and her friends visit Sam, however, Peter is stabbed in the back by Skull Mask, who then murders numerous others in the hospital before revealing himself to be Ryan. Sam and Deena seek assistance but are unable to persuade the authorities, while Simon is ambushed by Ruby Lane, a former Shadyside assassin. The gang realizes that Sam’s vehicle accident caused the grave of Sarah Fier to be disturbed and that Sam bled on her bones.

Despite Deena’s protestations, Sam grudgingly agrees to be sacrificed with the gang. When they discover that C. Berman, a survivor of the 1978 Camp Nightwing tragedy, died but was resuscitated, they save her. They try to phone her but get no response. The gang devises a scheme to kill and resurrect Sam using medications obtained from a supermarket pharmacy, only for Sam to vomit up the pills. Skull Mask forces Kate through a bread slicer, and the Camp Nightwing Killer kills Simon with an ax as Kate and Simon fight to fend off the Shadyside killers. Deena drowns Sam with her permission, forcing the killers to vanish. Deena uses a mix of EpiPens and CPR to resuscitate Sam.

Following that, the authorities chose to blame Simon and Kate because they were known to trade drugs. Sam and Deena reunite and come out as a relationship in public. Deena receives a call from C. Berman later that night, while Sam is in her house, telling her that there is no escape from the witch. Sam, who is now possessed, attacks Deena but is quickly subdued and restrained.
