Red Notice Storyline
Plot Summary & Review
Tom Buckingham, a suspended special forces operator, is planning to propose to Dr. Sophie Hart in Paris. Heavy-armed mercenaries commanded by Grace Lewis seize control of their train deep inside the Channel Tunnel and hold everyone prisoner. Grace threatens to detonate a bomb in the Channel Tunnel and declare economic war on a government with plenty of secrets to keep hidden. Tom is Sophie and the other passengers’ only hope of surviving, as he is unarmed and cut off from his counter-terrorist unit. To save them, he’ll have to accept Grace’s unique psyche, which makes her such a powerful foe.
Deep beneath the English Channel, a small army of violent terrorists has taken control of the Eurostar train to Paris, kidnapped 400 people at gunpoint, and launched war on a government with more secrets than it can handle.
One man stands in the way of their progress. Inside the train, an off-duty SAS man is hiding. He’s the only hope the passengers and crew have of surviving, even though he’s alone and injured. Sergeant Tom Buckingham, Andy McNab’s explosive new creation, unleashes a storm of intrigue and vengeance in his attempt to thwart the terrorists and save everyone on board, including Delphine, the lovely lady he loves.
Production & Filming
On February 8, 2018, it was announced that Dwayne Johnson and writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber were working on an action comedy as part of a bidding war between big studios for the rights. Universal, Warner Bros., Sony, and Paramount Pictures were all considered. The film would be produced by Beau Flynn’s Flynn Picture Company, Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions, Thurber’s Bad Version Inc., and Wendy Jacobson’s Wendy. Universal and Legendary were revealed as the winners of the bidding war for the rights on February 9, 2018.
For the first time, Johnson was confirmed to be paid at least $20 million for this film. Gal Gadot was eventually reported to have earned $20 million for her role in the film, making her the world’s third highest-paid actress in 2020. On June 11, 2018, Gadot was confirmed to join Johnson. July 8, 2019, Ryan Reynolds was added to the cast. February 10, 2020, Ritu Arya and Chris Diamantopoulos were added to the cast.
On September 14, 2020, filming resumed. By the end of October, Gadot and Reynolds had finished filming their parts. After wrapping production in Atlanta on November 14, the crew traveled to Rome and Sardinia, Italy, for a week of filming. On November 18, the filming in Italy was concluded. The film is the most expensive in Netflix’s history, with a production budget of $160 million (Variety said it might go as high as $200 million).
